Henry and his family moved to America in the 1850s and decided to americanize their name on their arrival so the Steinweg's became Steinways. \u003cstrong\u003eSteinways \u0026amp; Sons grew so quickly that in 1859 they built the worlds largest piano factory.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThey \u003ca title=\"Steinway Piano Manufacturing\" href=\"https:\/\/shacklef.myshopify.com\/collections\/steinway-piano-manufacturing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003ebuilt their pianos one at a time\u003c\/a\u003e,\u003c\/strong\u003e \u003cstrong\u003eapplying skills that were handed down from master to apprentice, generation after generation.\u003c\/strong\u003e In 1865 Steinway \u0026amp; Sons was turned upside down with the deaths of Charles and Henry Jr and in the same year Albert Steinway enlisted in the Union Army so Steinway \u0026amp; Sons was left without leadership. Theodore Steinweg (who stayed in Germany when the family moved to America) sold his part of Grotrian-Steinweg and travelled to America to help the family business. I\u003cstrong\u003en 1866 they opened a concert hall (Steinway Hall) which was the centre of New York culture\u003c\/strong\u003e until 1891 when Carnegie Hall was opened. \u003cstrong\u003eThe Steinway family moved on to build a hall in London in 1875 and moved their Steinway \u0026amp; Sons factory to Hamburg, Germany.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eToday, Steinway \u0026amp; Sons still build their pianos with dedication to detail.\u003c\/strong\u003e Each Steinway grand piano, for example, takes nearly a year to create.
